| Our Role | Congregation-Based Organizing | Rural Grassroots Organizing | Workforce Constituency Development
One
of RCI’s goals is to help the faith community address local concerns by
developing leadership teams that build and strengthen relationships
between their congregations and the surrounding communities. Through
these relationships, leaders identify and solve local problems. In
order to foster such efforts, RCI helped organize Faith In Community, a
federation of 17 congregations and community-based groups that are
working to improve conditions in the greater Fresno area. Faith In
Community has achieved much, including: - Partnered
with local residents and the Fresno Police Department to improve safety
conditions in El Dorado Park and surrounding neighborhoods;
- Organized after-school tutoring programs for elementary school students;
- Held educational events aimed at informing residents about existing resources for their families;
- Hosted a community organizing training for over 75 congregational members from the Fresno area;
- Partnered
with California State University, Fresno to conduct a systematic
neighborhood survey (in English, Hmong, Lao, and Spanish) of over 175
low-income families to identify community concerns.
